OVERVIEW
This document provides comprehensive and scientifically deduced quantitative information establishing the opinions and choices of 1,200 respondents in the City of Mandaue. Province of Cebu towards the Political Candidates in various positions for the 2016 National and Local Elections, through a scientific political survey in the 27 barangays covering the entire city.
It was conceptualized for the purpose of knowing the political climate in the area. This type of survey is a design used by many well-known, impartial and effective survey groups and organizations to guide political analysts, strategists and operators in the conduct of their political campaign activities for the benefit of their principals. Information, data and statistics gathered in this survey are vital tools that can help us in 2016 elections.
METHODOLOGY USED
In the implemented scientific political survey we conducted
last May 16- 21, 2015 in Mandaue City, Province of Cebu, we used the standard
method of administering questions. We used a questionnaire which would allow
respondents to mark on it, qualifying it as a Self-Administered Survey. Our Field
Staff were also eliciting information from the respondents relative to their choices
or non- response, factors affecting their choices and the finality of their
choices, thus making it a Research- Administered Survey. Information was
gathered and sourced from face-to-face interviews involving respondents who are
eligible to vote utilizing a structured questionnaire.
Areas where to select respondents were also selected
systematically using a proportional allocation-scheme basing it on the number
of registered voters in a barangay. Households
were selected using a radial-grid block coverage scheme along major streets in
the sample areas. The respondents were randomly selected but qualified and
quantified by location, age and gender. The total number of respondents is 1,200. The total number of registered voters of the
City of Mandaue in 2013 elections is 187,318 divided by 1,200 equals 156. To
get the number of respondents per barangay, we divided the number of voters per
barangay to 156, thus respondents per barangay is quantified.
SAMPLING APPROACH EMPLOYED
We have employed a Stratified Random Sampling Approach in quantifying and qualifying our
respondents. A Radial-block coverage scheme in every
barangays as a point of reference was also employed in choosing respondents.
The respondents per barangay were randomly selected in the area to elicit
balance information geographically. The data gathered then were tabulated and
were subjected to statistical analysis. Descriptive
statistics was employed to summarize the population
data by describing what was observed in the sample numerically or graphically. Inferential
statistics was also used to draw inferences about the
population represented. These inferences estimating numerical characteristics
of the data (estimation) and describing
associations within the data (correlation) were also employed
in the process of analyzing the results. The formula utilized in the survey is
the standard statistical political survey formula of getting the margin of error
which is “one divided by the
square-root of the sample size”. The square root of the sample size,
which 1,200 is equal to 34.64. And one divided by 34.64 equals 2.89%, thus the
margin of error is plus/minus 2.89%.
